I left my apartment in a hurry. I was already late. Even on a holiday like this one I had to work. Of course I was promised an early day, but those never tend to work out. I rushed to the dry cleaners to pick up tonights wardrobe. I was late to that too. Luckily, I caught the lady as she was locking the door and after a little too much pleading she went back in and grabbed my clothes. Now it was time for my haircut. Of course they double booked my appointment. Another two hours lost. Now I was really in crunch mode. No cabs.......wow this can't be happening. I run home. In front of my door I realize my keys were still at the office. " This isn't my life right now", I thought. Down to the desk I go to get a replacement. It's just not my day.
If I could escape, just for one night, I'd give everything I have.
Finally I'm standing in front of U-Bahn. The slow thump of the music downstairs is enticing. The people standing outside are dressed as if it's they're last night out and they're going out in class. Weird I thought. My date arrives carrying two masks. I'm handed one and told to put it on.
I hesitate. It's silly to wear something like this. I'm a full grown adult; this is child's play.
As we head in my date aggresively suggests to don the mask.
I give in.
As it slips over my face I realize something: I can be anyone tonight. I have no face here. I have no name here. I'm just one of many looking to let it all go for the night.
